The Penis Envy phenotype originates from Amazon rainforest collections by ethnobotanist Terence McKenna in the early 1970s. This legendary variety produces distinctive mushrooms with exceptionally thick, dense stems and bulbous caps that rarely open fully. The caps remain partially attached to the stem throughout development, creating the characteristic phallic appearance that gives this strain its name. PE fruits are compact but substantial, with stems often thicker than the cap diameter. The variety produces limited spores due to the caps’ reluctance to open completely. The gills must be swabbed to obtain spores, as PE is not capable making spore prints.
