The Texas Orange Cap phenotype of Psilocybe cubensis was first isolated in 2013 by mycology researcher “Mush Zombie” from the now-defunct Shroomology web forum. This distinct genetic variant was developed from wild Texas cubensis specimens and exhibits characteristic orange-tinted caps that distinguish it from its parent strain. The variety produces medium to large mushrooms with broad caps that display warm orange to rust coloration, particularly visible in younger specimens. Texas Orange Cap maintains the robust growth patterns typical of Texas strains while offering unique pigmentation.
