The Lightwave phenotype of Psilocybe cubensis is a hybrid strain developed by crossing the Tidal Wave and Albino A+ phenotypes. This leucistic hybrid retains partial pigmentation in the fruit body but produces normally pigmented spores, distinguishing it from a true albino variety.

First appearing in online mycology circles after the rise of Tidal Wave’s popularity, Lightwave combines its parent strains’ robustness with the ghostlike coloration of Albino A+. The caps typically measure 2–4 cm in diameter, convex to broadly convex in shape, and fade from a soft golden or cream center to pale white margins. The stems are slender to moderately thick, dense, and fibrous, maintaining an even pale white color from base to cap.

Lightwave demonstrates rapid colonization on grain and bulk substrates, often outpacing standard cubensis varieties. It fruits in dense, compact clusters, with flushes that produce a carpet of smaller mushrooms rather than a few large specimens. Yields are solid, with many researchers noting high numbers of mushrooms per flush despite their smaller size.
